I’ve been wearing Birkenstock’s since forever. Like a fine German wine they never lose their ability to surprise and delight. Over the years there are usually one or 2 pair laying near the front door ready to be put into service. But this summer things have gone a little off the deep end and now a legion of them sit ready to go. When Anton and I went skiing in Austria in March we spent some time afterwards at his home on the lake of Konstanz. That’s practically ground zero for Birkenstock’s with a fantastic store way too close for comfort.READ MORE >
If you’re like me and take an average of 2 showers a day, you’ll appreciate this post. At the beginning and end of the day and often just before dinner, I like nothing better than to shift gears and change clothes.READ MORE >
When I was a teenager, my twin sister and I used to fantasize about taking a trip at a moments notice, forcing us from a dull geography class at Groton Junior High to a waiting limo and then off to a secluded runway with a waiting private jet to take us off to Paris or London or Rome… The best part of the fantasy was what we would bring to wear. It couldn’t be things we had but a wardrobe chosen and packed on the way.READ MORE >
To all of us who’ve been fighting the good fight, living our lives out loud, the young and old who’ve recently come out and to those who still live lives under siege, this is a day to celebrate. It’s a short ride on this spinning ball, why not make the very most of it? Happy Gay Pride !!!
I’ve just read that Bill Cunningham has died. An unassuming man who moved within the highest circles of fashion and society, chronicling every moment through his ever ready camera gave so many a reason to get up, get dressed and get on with it. For many Bill was the barometer of their getting it right or not. And all who came in contact with that voracious viewfinder looked longingly in the Style section of the sunday New York Times to see if they’d made the cut.READ MORE >
I passionately believe that the weekends are for the 3 S’s: Sleeping, Supping and Socializing. During the week, I go to the gym 3 days and workout with Joe, my trainer, for the simple reason that if I didn’t workout with him, I wouldn’t workout at all. I can honestly say that most days on the way to the gym I’ve gone through my head every possible excuse to “call in sick”. But sure enough, the moment I’ve finished that hour of regimented torture I’m thrilled that I submitted.READ MORE >
If there’s anything in my wardrobe I’m really passionate about it would be my collection of striped tee shirts and shirts. Its physically impossible for me to go by a pile of stripes in a store without adding to my stash, assuming they are graphically strong and the combination of colors are unusual.
Looking at old pictures from high school and my early years in NYC, stripes have been ubiquitous. Though it’s become instinctual for me to choose them with little thought, I realize stripes function as a dynamic foil to whatever I put on.READ MORE >
Indigo dyed clothes are ubiquitous this summer. What started as a novelty 2 years ago has bled into all levels of the marketplace. Indigo dovetails perfectly with our denim tendencies making an all over indigo-dyed look the easy way to go.READ MORE >
