NYC is standing at an interesting crossroads. When I moved here after college, a long time ago, it was busy cleaning itself up. Let’s just say there was a bit too much color in the local color.
The seedier corners that gave the city much of its texture and character were dispatched during the Giulliani administration. Oh, the stories, but that’s more tumblr than WordPress. The city went through a renaissance of sorts with all of its engines firing. Socially, culturally, economically, you name it NYC was on the go go. Now it’s grown fat and feels a need to expand.
All around but especially all along the West side and way downtown buildings are sprouting up in clusters quickly erasing the city we all knew. Looking downtown on 6th Ave the new Freedom Tower stands sentry over what is soon to be a brand new city. It’s funny what happens when you spend most of your adult life in one place, even when that place is gigantic.
