Coach is one of those giants that has been sleeping of late. Well, that was until Stuart Vevers kissed the slumbering Princess.
You may (or may not wish to) remember Coach in the old days as a war horse of an accessories company catering first to women and then men. In those days it was a quiet presence but ever present, nevertheless. Then the reins were passed to Reed Krakoff who did lots to almost put the whole enterprise permanently to sleep. His interests were more of the selfie sort with his attention veering to flipping multi million dollar properties and his namesake brand ,which is already a dim memory even to those whose memory of all things sartorial rarely dims. The company went from a player to being played. Then, behold the shuffling of the deck found Krakoff in the bargain bin and a new presence in his place: Stuart Vevers.
Vevers has done something that most hires whose mission is to reset the clock, re-boot the brand and bring home the bacon. Well, he’s done all of that and more. He’s re-created a Coach that answers all of the pertinent questions: It’s cool, clever, unique, recognizably Vevers, modern and serves everyone from the fashion purist to the iconoclast. It’s all there in bags, shoes and yes, even clothes. I walked into the store yesterday and almost had to be escorted out, I was SO enthused. Here are some things worth considering:
