Good German Scents

It takes excessive heat to remind us of how good we feel when its cool and comfortable out. Feeling sticky and flushed is my least favorite feeling. And yet you can’t shower 6 times a day and still have a life, so why not find a bottle of relief and not one to guzzle, either. I’m talking about a bottle of scent or Kollnisch Wasser if you’re German (trans. Cologne water as in the city). 4711 from Cologne Germany is a heritage brand that’s been refreshing people around the globe since 1792.

It’s special mixture remains a company secret. Ingredients such as Bergamot, lemon, and orange provide a revitalizing effect. Lavender and rosemary have a calming and relaxing effect, strengthening the nerves.  Neroli, extracted from the blossom of the bitter orange, has a calming effect in the base note, creating a positive mood.

In the past few years the company has created a new line called Acqua Colonia using the original 4711 blend as its base but with top notes that make for a group of incredibly interesting modern scents. Like 4711 you’re able to use them liberally as all over body sprays without fear of smelling like a department store perfume counter.

I came upon them looking on line and took a chance and ordered them. I have to admit I was swayed by the design and packaging which is handsome. My favorites are Mandarin and Cardoman, Blood Orange and Basil and Pink Pepper and Grapefruit. I’ll warn you once you try them you’ll be hard pressed to use anything else.

The subtle, fresh scents are unique and never overpowering. The line also includes shower gels, body lotions and soaps in the same scents. Splurge on  one to start and then go for it. I did!!!
