Every once in a while I go to Pinterest and find myself falling headlong down a rabbit hole. The other day I was looking at street style images from the Paris collections only to stumble onto an image of Pharrell Williams in a killer pair of G-Star jeans.
The irony is that only moments before I was wishing I could find a good jeans alternative that would still feel like my tried and true Levi’s but with a bit of an edge. An endless selection of denim in all sorts of washes and textures is still ultimately a pair of jeans. My mission is to find jeans that fit and feel like them but look decidedly other. My other criteria is to not spend $200 or more when I can get them for less than $100. My final criteria is that they fit comfortably and not like jeggings; sleek but with room to move without the help of stretch. NO STRETCH.
So this one image of Pharrell and a little line below saying he’d done a collaboration with G-Star sent me clicking my way down, down and deeper into the fantastical world of G-Star Raw Elwood X25 jeans. Wide horizontal stripes were my initial bait which led to a finer pin stripe and then from there the possibilities came rushing. Camo in multiple color combinations, tropical prints, geometrics, plaids, checks, flowers, even old Toile de Jouy wall paper patterns appear. At under $200 I think a couple of these could take me very easily through the spring and summer right straight through next autumn.
