In Tribeca the Aire Ancient baths is a sprawling subterranean hideaway. Under vaulted ceilings this cavernous space opens up with a series of pools ranging in temperatures from cold (Frigidarium 61 degrees) to very warm (Caldarium 102 degrees) with icy dunking pools interspersed.
A steam room sits inside glass and massage therapists offer individual and dual massages in an area closed off by sheer cloth curtains. Another room within the space, The Floatarium offers you a relaxation area with heated marble seating and cold water and tea at your fingertips.
Every moment is like a meditation and silence is the only directive. The different pools are large and beautifully lit. Light is as much a compelling detail as is the space itself. I went with 2 friends one brutal February day and forgot completely where I was. I’m sure you will too.
