My sister blogger Jolain of Primadarling fame just posted a perfect 4th of July/Summer 2017 story on Advanced French Girl Style. The super model Ines de la Fressange of Chanel fame is the quintessential French Girl with BOUCOUP style chops. Looking at that story it brought to mind that it’s not just the French girls who get it right. Lots of French guys do too.
Having visited the City of Lights about 4 times in the last 18 months, I’ve seen lots of French guys in action. Just like Ines, there is a naturalness to their way of wearing clothes that just exudes STYLE. You’d think because it’s Paris the streets would be teeming with FASHION of the moment, but on the contrary. Parisians take their style cred in stride not relying on recognizable brands to do the talking (like too many folks on this side of the pond). Instead, they wear clothes that transcend the look of the moment, digging deeper for a personal identity through clothes.
Like Ines in her perfect button downs, perfect fitting jeans and accessories, the guys are just as put together. Here are some essentials a la Francaise that would put any man on the style map.
What’s better is that these pieces are forever. They will never die as time has witnessed. Think Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Sidney Poitier and Marcello Mastrianni. What they wore is precisely what is still the tried and true 50 years later.
I’m starting to tire of white Stan Smiths and feel for monochromatic sneakers in taupe, grey, sand or dark green. Pair all of that with a throw away Timex watch, a Miansai bracelet and Lesca shades that whisper Retro and you’re ready to traverse the Marais, the beach towns up and down the coast of France, Italy, Turkey or the beaches of the East or West Coast. You’ll inspire the uninspired and isn’t that what we all secretly want? Let’s show them all how it’s done !!!!!
