Speedos have always been my swim suit of choice. I can still remember dragging my big sister with me to a little boutique just off of Ogunquit beach at 15 to buy my first one in …lemon yellow. Yeah, I was precocious even then. Banana hammock… does that phrase come to mind? Well I had guts then and a fit trim body. I neither have the body or the guts now.
My old Speedos just don’t have the right proportion to flatter. They’re both too low and too little. So looking for something I can grab quickly sent me to Mr.Porter where the selection is good, though Bottom Feeder Alert… most is at full price even though pumpkins are taking shape in the fields of the East End. Still, I found 2 possibilities to consider.
One is a board short by Saturdays NYC. It’s a bicolor blue and navy stripe that looks great. At $85 it’s a good bet. There’s another style by Frescobol Carioca that’s cut more like a 50’s swim suit. They have a slightly higher waist and the leg is cut bit lower. The proportion looks good for a body that’s neither half formed or one that’s overstuffed. Actually, both would work really well and might spare me further embarrassment.
